Some people think Apple Watch is a flop, while some think smartwatches are nothing but a fad. On the contrary, according to a study conducted in Q2 2015, by the predictive research firm Strategy Analytics, the smartwatch market has grown by 457% since last year and the Apple Watch has managed to walk away with the lion’s share i.e. 75% of the market.
That’s amazing stuff!
In other words, 5.3 million smartwatches were sold in Q2 2015 altogether, including 4 million Apple Watch units. So, about three of every four watches sold globally in the second quarter were Apple Watches.
Interestingly, Samsung had 75% of the market share in Q2 of the last year, but now their share has shrunk to just 7.5%. The fact that Samsung hasn’t launched a smartwatch in months has surely contributed to immensely reduced sales. The remaining 17.5% of the lot went to the likes of Pebble, Sony, LG etc.
