While more noise has been around the yet-to-be-released Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01, Swiss rival Mondaine has already launched their Helvetica 1 Smart Watch.
The watch is up for preorder, with a limited run of 1,957 pieces going on sale for $850. The price is supposed to go a $100 up after September – or maybe if the limited stock runs out first. Currently, it’s only available to buyers from America and Canada. Tag Heuer’s offering will be pricier, costing $1,400 but it will also pack more features.
The smartwatch was first announced at the Baselworld watch expo, back in March. In fact, it’s more of an activity tracker, packed with the same Silicon Valley tech: Fullpower Technologies’ MotionX, as found in Nike Fuelband and three different models of Jawbone.
As for the design, it’s pretty similar to the Withings Activité range: a large analogue dial that tells the time, and a smaller 1-100 dial indicating user’s progress based on daily activities and goals. More “smart” stuff i.e. data processing and detailed analysis is done on smartphone. And yes, it’s compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
To sum up, the Mondaine Helvetica 1 Smartwatch is: a beautiful design, a powerful technology and a high price tag. Check out official webpage for more details, or get a watch from the limited stock.
