Volvo plans to release their On Call app for the Apple Watch as well as Android Wear-based smartwatches, by the end of this month. The watch will have all the features of its predecessor apps for tablets and smartphones, just as Director Connected Products and Services David Holecek said in a statement:
Volvo On Call is an app that allows you to literally take control over everyday elements in your Volvo. You can set heater timings for those cold and frosty mornings or cool down your car in hot weather, check your fuel level and mileage, or time to next service. It even helps you to locate your car in a crowded parking garage.
David, however, didn’t mention a couple of important things. Firstly, if your airbags get deployed, the app instantly connects you to an operator who can track your location through GPS. Needless to say this feature can save lives. Secondly, the app will be wrapped in a new, elegant design based on the Sensus connected interface.
You’ll have to wait just a few more days before you can take the app for a spin, but don’t use it while driving – there is news of a Canadian driver being ticketed (a $120 fine) for using Apple Watching while driving.
